Last Sunday, February 1st—St. Bridget's Day—we opened the doors at Castle Barna Wellness Centre from 2pm to 4pm.
A steady stream of people arrived, filling the area with tea, cake, and relaxed conversation. The atmosphere was genuinely warm. Friends, neighbors, and newcomers mingled, getting acquainted over slices from Ballycommon Bakehouse. Bog's Dollops (Rhode) and Hotshot Café in Daingean generously kept the refreshments coming.
A bunch of children ran around outside having a ball, adding to that immediate sense of community.
Lorna Farrell's watercolour paintings brightened the yoga studio walls—robins, honeybees, a swallow sitting calm and still, a peacock standing proud. Mia Corcoran set up her stall inside, selling lip balms, bog oak talismans, simmer pot blends, and other handmade goods.
A big thank you to the owners, Ciarán Mangan and Evelyn Mangan, for their help in getting everything prepared. Special thanks also to our teachers, Carol and Reidin, who were present, and to Donal and Ainé for their efforts in cleaning up behind the bar.
Countless others brought gifts—far too many to name individually, and we didn’t want to risk forgetting anyone.
A woman remarked that it was akin to "having tea in the Shelbourne Hotel." That comment left a lasting impression on us.
By the end of the afternoon, we felt extremely proud and overwhelmed by the turnout. Above all, extremely grateful to everyone who came to show their support.
Castle Barna Wellness Centre is now open for business. Classes are rolling. Come down—tea’s always on.
See you soon. 🧘♀️🍵
